Duke of Burgundy Butterfly
This is a species of butterfly in my home town Brighton, mainly found in southern England.
Paper sculpture commissioned by the BBC, 28th April 2019.
(Please note there are tiny marks on the acrylic glazing, hence the price.)
This is a unique work made for BBC Countryfile which aired in 2019. Lisa was featured talking about her work on screen with presenter Steve Brown at Pulborough Brooks, East Sussex. It is made entirely from paper, the body structure is constructed from card and the texture is made up of over 3,000 hand cut paper tabs, meticulously hand glued freehand to create the pattern. Everything is made entirely from paper.
Each piece is tiny and hand cut and fringed. The difficulty with the piece is the symmetry, working from the bottom and outside edges and working inwards and upwards to the top.
Frame dimensions:
H 22cm / W 31cm / D 5.5cm
Bespoke frame made from maple wood.
