Making an original from an original

Lisa creates her original artworks in her studio in Hove. It is a happy place where she immerses herself in the tactile qualities of paper. Once she completes an original, she photographs the work and carefully stores and labels all the offcuts to use for her mixed media pieces.

An original can take 4 - 6 weeks so Lisa gets very attached to her artwork. When the pieces go to their new homes, Lisa finds satisfaction in keeping the original alive by breathing life into the paper that remains.

“Nature provides endless inspiration with its beauty, while life and world events provoke feelings that I want to express, both emotionally and visually.

I’m inspired and affected by what’s happening in the world now, I want to express that: I have constant mixed feelings of joy and anger, hope and frustration.

I find that the mindful and immersive nature of working with paper helps me to channel my emotions and express them; creating a kind of meditative escapism.”
