Oneiron
This is a piece of work called ‘Oneiron’ which Lisa worked on over a two month period. In 2024 Lisa began a fascination with chrysalis; she has been intrigued by how it might feel during metamorphosis. The caterpillar digests itself, releasing enzymes to dissolve all of its body tissue apart from ‘imaginal discs’ which are the building blocks of turning into a butterfly.
Lisa wanted to explore the consciousness of the caterpillar during this process… that it might experience a kind of fever dream. A surreal visualisation of the caterpillar receiving flashes of its future self. Blurry visions and flashes of wings, patterns and details.
For this work Lisa wanted to explore this process, capturing the imagery of hairs and details of a moth. Expressing the movement in a flurry of paint marks, abstract shapes and patterns.
This work is a mixed media collage on a wooden frame board. Bockingford 425gsm watercolour paper, watercolour paint, acrylic spray paint.
