Nautilus

This Nautilus shell was commissioned by private collectors who live in the beautiful Pacific NW in the US. Lisa was asked to create a piece inspired by nature, shells and the ocean. The piece was created by eye, sculpting the paper by hand to recreate the ‘golden ratio’ of a nautilus shell- beautiful arcs reducing and ascending to the centre. The skeleton of the shell was created entirely from card. No technology was involved in the design or the construction.

Using 5 different coloured papers, Lisa created over 7,000 different sized paper tabs using a cutting machine, which were then all hand glued to the form to create a crashing wave effect inspired by the ocean.
