De Anima
Lisa's work 'De Anima' is inspired by the philosophical text by Aristotle, in which he explores the nature of life and the soul. He believed that animals have a 'Sensitive soul' giving them the ability to sense the world around them.
In this work, Lisa has presented this idea in a skeletal form in the chest of the fish. Capturing it's life force (or soul) burning bright in its chest, communicating the power and resilience of this force despite human's best efforts to extinguish it.
The work is made entirely from paper and card, this includes the internal structure and external textures. The paper is hand finished with gold acrylic spray paint and imitation leading.
It took approximately160 hours to make.
